Local News Release, Poster and Programfor"Two Evenings with C.S. Lewis:The Man Who created Narnia"Facsimile of News Article "Local Pastor to LeadArts Program on C.S. Lewis"This Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Burkesville Christian Church fellowship hall, our community has the wonderful opportunity of learning more about one of the 20th century's best and most popular Christian writers, C.S. Lewis. In celebration of Lewis's 100th birthday, the Cumberland County Arts Council has asked Bro. Richard James to make a two-evening presentation on C.S. Lewis's life, work and influence. On both evenings there will be a multmedia program - a combination of videos and discussion. There is no charge for attending and refreshments will be served each night. During his lifetime C.S. Lewis wrote over forty books - both fiction and non-fiction; and according to one estimate, he is the best-selling Christian author of all time, with some forty million copies in print. Especially popular has been his book, Mere Christianity. Many are also familiar with his novels for children, The Chronicles of Narnia, and have seen the recent film on his life, Shadowlands, starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. In 1957 his book, The Last Battle, received the Library Association Carnegie Medal; and in 1962, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. As a program sponsored by the Cumberland County Arts Council, this presentation is open to the whole community. Everyone is encouraged to come and to bring someone with them. For further information or questions, contact Richard James at 864-5843 or 864-4335. "Local Pastor to lead Arts Program on C.S. Lewis." Cumberland County News. Vol. 78. No. 5.
